Daily Fibre Foundation: The Formulation Rationale

This post connects the formulation dots: explaining why each fibre is chosen, why we combined them in this specific ratio and dose, and how this blend fits into a daily routine without unwanted side effects. We won’t hype benefits or make big promises — we’ll stick to the rationale. Think of this as a formulation guide, not a sales pitch.

Recap: The Individual Fibres

Green Banana Flour

A natural source of resistant starch (a fermentable carbohydrate) that helps support gut microbial diversity. We include it for its slow-fermenting, butyrate-producing properties – at a conservative dose so it adds fermentable substrate without overwhelming the gut. (See our green banana blog for details)

PHGG (Sunfiber®)

A low-viscosity soluble fibre derived from guar gum. It reliably improves bowel regularity with minimal gas or bloating. We include PHGG because it dissolves fully in liquids and ferments gently, smoothing the overall fibre workload. Its predictability helps the blend go down easily without digestive fuss. (See our PHGG blog for details.)

Acacia Fibre

A gentle, slow-fermenting soluble fibre (gum arabic) that nourishes beneficial gut bacteria. Acacia ferments gradually in the colon, steadily feeding microbes without a big spike in gas. We use it because its restrained fermentation profile provides bulk-free regularity and blunts the rate of overall fermentation, enhancing tolerance. (See our acacia blog for details.)

Why Combine Them

Using all three fibres together spreads out fermentation and broadens microbial support. PHGG and acacia ferment slowly and predictably, while green banana’s resistant starch reaches farther along the colon to produce butyrate. In practice, this timing mix means no single fibre overloads the gut at once. Acacia and PHGG act as buffers that slow and steady the process, while green banana adds a downstream fermentable feed. The net effect is smoother digestion: less risk of a rapid gas burst or bloating than if any high-fermenter were used alone.

This blend also hits a wider range of gut microbes. For example, acacia and PHGG are known to boost Bifidobacteria and other good gut bugs without symptoms, while resistant starch (green banana) especially fuels butyrate-producing species. Together they produce a complementary mix of short-chain fatty acids (acetate, propionate, butyrate) that support colon health. In short, combining fibres distributes fermentability (fast, medium, slow) and fosters diverse microbial activity. It achieves what a single fibre can’t: a balanced, gentle SCFA output and consistent feeding of the microbiome.

Importantly, this mix avoids common pitfalls of some fibres. Unlike highly viscous gel-formers, none of these three will form an unmanageable gel. And unlike high-FODMAP fructans (e.g. inulin or chicory root), they ferment without “going off” quickly. In effect, the blend is designed for predictable everyday use – it “works by not making a fuss”.

What We Left Out — and Why

For transparency, we deliberately excluded certain popular fibres and ingredients. None are “bad”, but they didn’t fit our goals of consistency and tolerability:

  • Psyllium husk: A potent gel-forming fibre often used for bulk. We didn’t include it because in large doses (or without enough water) it can cause bloating or a sense of fullness. Its gel is useful in some contexts, but it also changes stool texture dramatically. For a daily staple product, we avoided that unpredictability.
  • Inulin/fructan fibres (e.g. chicory root): These are powerful prebiotics but “fast-fermenting” fibres. A rapid introduction of inulin is notorious for causing gas and bloating. They work well at the right dose, but because our aim is daily consistency, we left them out.
  • Mixed prebiotic blends or “reset” formulas: Complex blends often throw in everything at once. We skipped these because they make the response unpredictable. The more ingredients, the higher the risk one will overwhelm the gut. Our approach is minimal and measured.
  • Non-fibre additives: We also left out sweeteners, flavours or colourings and any “detox” ingredients. Those aren’t needed for the goal of gentle, reliable fibre intake (and they can complicate the gut’s response).

Framing these exclusions shows we’ve thought carefully about tolerability and simplicity. This blend isn’t about trendy claims – it’s about getting the basics right every day.

The Ratio and the Dose

Why 3:1 soluble:insoluble? In this blend roughly three-quarters of the fibre is soluble (PHGG + acacia) and the rest is insoluble/resistant (green banana). We chose that ~3:1 ratio because soluble fibres form a mild gel and ferment in a controlled, predictable way. The insoluble/resistant portion adds structure and feeds different microbes. This balance supports regular stools and smooth fermentation, without the “excessive fermentation” peaks that can happen if too much fast-fibre is used.

Why ~6 g fibre per serving? Each 7.5 g scoop of the product provides about 6 g of dietary fibre – a meaningful boost, but not an overload. We picked this amount so that one serving makes a clear dent in your daily goal while still being gentle on the gut. In other words, the dose is large enough to matter, yet small enough to repeat daily without trouble.

Why a 7.5 g scoop (not 15 g)? The 7.5 g scoop (6 g fibre) is intentional. Our aim is a daily habit, not a shock dose. At 6 g of fibre, users can quickly scale from 0 to 1 serving with minimal adjustment. By contrast, a 15 g scoop would be heavy – it could spike fermentation and likely cause discomfort if not introduced very slowly. This isn’t a “max dose” supplement; it’s a repeatable one. One serving per day gradually builds tolerance.

Physiological effect: Taken daily, this dose leads to stable digestion. Soluble fibres (PHGG and acacia) hydrate into a gentle gel that slows transit just enough, and all three fibres ferment gradually over hours. The result is more predictable bowel function and steadier SCFA production. Users shouldn’t experience sudden fullness or gas surges – rather a consistent, mild fermentation. We intentionally prioritise low gas production and gradual fermentation.

A consistency-first product: In short, this blend is about reliability. It’s formulated to slot into your routine safely every day. We explicitly avoided maxing out the dose or pushing fiber to the limit. This is not a “weekend gut overload” powder. It’s a modest, calibrated mix that supports ongoing gut stability. Put simply, it’s built for consistency, not intensity.

Where It Fits in a Routine

Because the blend is neutral and unflavoured, it can be taken with any meal or drink. PHGG, for example, “dissolves fully in hot or cold liquids, has no perceptible taste, and does not thicken over time”. So you can stir a scoop into coffee, tea, juice, water or a protein shake – it won’t change the texture or flavour.

Importantly, it won’t impair exercise or mental focus. Since it’s a low-viscosity mix that acts in the colon, you shouldn’t feel any heaviness or rush. You can train, work, or do meetings as usual. For example:

  • 6:30 AM: Stir a scoop into black coffee.
  • 7:15 AM: Head to the gym or start your workout. (Performance is unchanged — the fibre has dissolved and won’t cause cramps or energy dips.)
  • By 11:00 AM: Appetite and digestion feel more predictable (for instance, hunger may set in normally rather than spiking).

In other words, you won’t “feel” it dramatically. You won’t get a sudden energy boost or crash. Instead, over days and weeks the system quietly adapts: bowel movements stay regular and hunger cues stabilise. Some users do notice subtler benefits (like steadier energy or satiety) after a week or two, but nothing jarring. The point is that this fiber blend works behind the scenes, not like a stimulant.

Who It’s For — and Who It’s Not

This blend is for people who want reliable, everyday support from their fibre – without surprises. It’s aimed at users who already eat well, track their nutrition, and simply want a stable baseline of extra fibre each day.

It is not a weight-loss powder, a magic detox, or a quick “gut reset”. There are no detox herbs or laxatives hidden in the formula. You won’t suddenly lose weight or cure digestive disease by adding this scoop. Instead, it’s for those who appreciate that gradual, steady habits shape gut health over time.

On the flip side, if you’re tired of fibre supplements that come and go in their effects, this is for you. It’s for the person who says, “I want my daily fibre to behave the same way every day, and to support my system without disruption.” That means no giant gel, no ferocious fermentation, no roller-coaster of symptoms. It’s a foundation, not a spectacle.
